For instance, if someone were to win 10,000 $ college scholorship money, how would that be used? Is it cash or what? I am confused as to what you can or cannot do with the money. Also if you qualify for financial aid, will this affect it in any way? Thanks

I called my college yesterday and I wasn’t eligible for financial aid when I’ve been getting every year. I should be because I don’t have a job and I’m a dependant without spouses or income and my GPA is 3.0 up. I checked on FAFSA but it said that the problem was they thought I wasn’t a US Citizen when I am!! Is there any way to still get the aid? Make them see that I am?

I’ve moved out and live on my own; I’m completely self sustaining. However I can not get financial aid because of how much money my mother makes; if I were to emancipate myself would I still be required to show their income on my application process.

Joan of Arc asked:

My question is this: do you receive more financial aid if you’re a married student rather than a single student. I’m pretty sure in my state (IN) that you are claimed by your parents until you are like 24 technically unless you are married. I’m just wonderinf if I could get more federal money for college if my BF and I got married.

Our twenty-one year old daughter is no longer claimed as a dependent on our tax return, she files her own return, and supports herself. Why is our income considered when it comes to her receiving financial aid?
