Is it based on how much the school tution, your age, your income, and the school? I don’t live with my parents, I am in my late 20s possibly thinking about attending school. I know what FAFSA is, but I just want to know how do they determine how much they will approve for financial aid. Thanks!!

I moved out of my parents house when I was 18. Since then, I have been taking classes at my local community college and have been paying out of pocket. Because I was not 24, I needed to provide my parents information. So much for that! I became a homeowner this past year and have been at my job for the last 5 years. It hasnt been easy but I make enough to pay for my mortgage and bills. I turned 24 this year and can finaly fill out my FAFSA w/o my parents information. Now, my biggest concern is that I may qualify for little or no financial aid because I’m single, have no kids and because according to the government, may make too much money. Since I am a homeowner, will that be a factor as to how much financial aid I can receive?

For example, you use all 4 years financial aid to pay for college, but you still did not finish your undergraduate degree. And is there other way to apply for financial aid?

I got my FAFSA back and the amount of financial aid increased by more than $2000 for the next school year. My parents are happy and all but it still strikes me as odd. I don’t think anything really changed on the application from last year to this year so why would it go up so much? I guess what I’m asking is what factors in the FAFSA application would cause the biggest change? GPA? Family income? The day I sent it in? Class standing/year in college? Something else?

Our government has been striving to cut financial aid that flows to the terrorist’ pocket from any resources. As far as we can see, terrorist groups like Al-sunnah are still active and their equipment and weapons becoming more sophiscated. So, who smuggles money for them? Since the financial aid from abroad is unlikely due to tight security and joint effort from the government of Iraq and the U.S, they ought to shrink rather than prosper, but they seem able to concoct terrorist activities, one larger than another.

Star asked: I have filled out the application for financial aid about a year and a half ago and nothing has changed as far as income coming in. I also qualify for the Pell Grant.
My problem is, what do I do first? Do I enroll in the college with the selected courses first and then go back and apply again for the aid, or do I apply for the aid and then the college?
Please, I know I am sounding very uneducated with this as I have heard people say it is a simple process, but bare with me, okay?
Thanks a bunch!
