Where can I get financial aid help besides my college?
Saturday, October 20th, 2007I have crappy college when it comes to financial aid. I’m suppose to not have to pay for college. I’m suppose to get all sorts of grants but I don’t where get them. My mom died when I was young and I was in Department of human services custody. I have to take out these loan and that still isn’t enough.
What financial aid options are available to someone seeking a second Bachelor’s Degree?
Friday, October 19th, 2007I earned a Bachelor’s of Elective Stusdies last summer, but am considering returning to college to persue a second degree. I can not seem to find any good information on financial aid except student loans. I am not making enough money at my present job to pay my bills, let alone more student loans. I have found my education thus far does not really apply to any field. I took primarily classes in Special Education and without a teaching license they are not helping me to find anything in my area.
Can I get more money in Financial Aid than my school allows?
Thursday, October 18th, 2007My FA advisor stated that I can only get about $1500 dollars more than the cost of attendance minus financial aid (which isn’t a lot), from an alternative loan, which won’t cover the cost of a computer I need to purchase for school. Unfortunately, the computer is going to be rather expensive, but I’m going to school for game design, so I need something that will be top of the line to handle the programs and rather large files.
The gov’t very clearly states that you can request additional funds (with no limit or income restrictions) for any costs associated with attending school.
I’m confused? Can I ask for the additional amount I need for the computer or am I not allowed? Anyone with similar experience?
I did mention my request, and the dollar amount. My school does require a computer (I’m an online student), and as it stands my current computer barely meets most requirements. MY FA advisor won’t give me any more information, she just kind of keeps repeating the same thing.
Also, yes, I know Apple has a student discount, but when I need a system that starts at $2300, the $200 discount they give is kind of useless when I’m looking at $5K. I’m not fond of Windows (which are cheaper) because they have a shorter lifespan, and aren’t great when it comes to creating graphics. (I have extensive experience with both systems.)
Is the cost of an apartment included in financial aid at UW-Madison?
Monday, October 8th, 2007My daughter is attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison and she has only lived in the dorms, she is considering an apartment for next year instead. Do you know if she is not living in the dorms do they only consider the tuition and books in the cost of attendance for financial aid? Or, is housing even if off campus still included in the cost?
She definitely needs the aid so just wondering?
Plus, does anyone know or have an idea on approx apartment costs in the Madison area?
