Do you have to report college financial aid as income to unemployment?
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008Curious asked:
Lousy job market has forced me to go back to school for something more marketable. Have been on unemployment for several months. Soon I will start back to college and will be receiving federal financial aid for it. Do I have to report this to the unemployment office as income? I live in PA if that helps.

How to handle my tax return w/ financial aid?

Basically, with my financial aid refund (leftovers after tuiton), I had roughly $3,000 which I then used to replace my PoS car and bought a used car. This was last year (2008) do I have to do anything when filing my taxes this year?

My family has very little money. My mother is sick all the time and she only works twice a month. My mother’s boyfriend tries to help out however he doesn’t have enough. We are on every kind of financial aid plan they have so I am currently a senior in high school only 16 years old and I will be 17 on December 31 this year. I have been thinking about colleges and every college I looked at is expensive. The financial aid probably won’t even be enough. I wanna major in English so I can write children’s books. I want to be an author. Anyway I live in New Jersey but I don’t want to stay close to home. I don’t want my mom to always worry about me. I want her to know that I can manage on my own. The farthest I will go is to New York state or Pennslyvania. But we don’t have the money I need ways of getting in to good colleges that are not too expensive. I don’t want to go to a community school because it shows that I can’t live alone. Because I will have to live with my mom. What should I do?
