How likely am I to get Financial Aid for ONLY the spring semester?

I am in the process of filing for financial aid. I read that anything filed after the deadline of March/April 2007 would only be considered for the Spring 2008 semester. Then I received a letter from PHEAA that I filed late and may not get anything.
